Life Addictions

Due to her ability to get me hooked onto television shows, I’ve recently started calling Jess my “drug dealer”. It usually starts with me walking by her desk, the volume isn’t even on, but something on the screen catches my eye. For example, about two weeks ago, I walked by and saw a naked chick getting strangled by the Ice Truck Killer a la Dexter Season 1. Upon seeing Jess watch what appears as porn as I walked by, I then walked back. My initial reaction was somewhat like George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life, when he realizes that he stepped on Mary’s robe and she’s naked in the bushes.... “Hmmmm…. A man doesn’t get in a situation like this every day.”

A week later and I walk up to Jess and tap my inner arm and say “I need the good stuff.” With Netflix I can get my fix of season 1 or 2 of Dexter at anytime online. It used to be Heroes but the show doesn’t give me the high I need anymore. On Friday we finished Season 2 of Dexter in a 4 hour marathon session. I started thinking of a 12 step program for my dark demons when I got an email from Kelvin…

In the last 24 hours, I’ve played 5 games of Craps on my iphone due to Kelvin’s recommendation. I won $300 (fake dollars) in one, won $100 in another, and crapped out in the rest. Just enough of a net win to keep me going into the next week.

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Lol. With friends like these, indeed.

We love Dexter and are prone to watching it in similar gorging, marathon sessions.

Have you watched Mad Men? It's much more slow, but probably my favorite show on television. For example, I think the Wire is very well written and researched and is probably the most tightly-written show I've ever seen -- there're no wasted threads. But, as pretentious as it sounds, Mad Men is art.

I also think you guys might like this Canadian series that a colleague got me into: "Slings and Arrows." I don't recommend it to everyone (and the wife didn't like it). But I think you'd enjoy it.
